The cloudy pool water increase the risk of infectious diseases and decrease the effectiveness of disinfectants so the pool water should be treated with Flocculants in a timely manner. Aluminium Sulphate (also termed alum) is an excellent pool flocculant for creating clear and clean swimming pools.
What is Aluminum sulfate Used for Water Treatment
Aluminum sulfate is an inorganic substance that is easily soluble in water, and its chemical formula is Al2(SO4)3.14H2O. The appearance of commercial products are white orthorhombic crystalline granules or white tablets
Its advantages are that it is less corrosive than FeCl3, easy to use, has a good water treatment effect, and has no adverse effect on water quality. However, it should be noted that when the water temperature is low, floc formation will become slow and loose, affecting the water coagulation and flocculation effect.
How Aluminum Sulphate Treats Pool Water
In pool treatment, when dissolved in water, aluminium sulphate forms a flocculant that attracts suspended solids and contaminants and binds to them, making them easier to separate from water. Specifically, aluminum sulfate dissolved in water will slowly hydrolyzes to form a positively charged Al(OH)3 colloid, which adsorbs normally negatively charged suspended particles in water, and then quickly coalesces together and settles to the bottom of the water. The sediment can then be separated from the water by sedimentation or filtration.
Sediment is filtered out of the water, reducing the amount of contaminants in the water and reducing the cost of sludge treatment.
aluminium sulphate gives the pool a clean and translucent blue or blue-green color.
Directions For Use of Aluminium Sulphate in Water Treatment
1. Fill a plastic bucket to approximately half full with pool water. Shake the bottle, and add aluminum sulfate at the rate of 300 to 800 g per 10,000 L of the pool water to the bucket, stir gently to mix thoroughly.
2. Pour the aluminum sulfate solution onto the water surface evenly and keep the circulation system is running for one cycle.
3. Add pH Plus to keep the pH and the total alkalinity of the treated swimming pool.
4. Allow the pool to stand undisturbed without the pump running for 24 hours or preferably 48 hours if possible for best results.
5. Start the pump now and allow any remaining cloudiness to be collected in the filter, if necessary, use robot cleaner to remove sediment on the pool floor.
In conclusion, the role of swimming pool flocculant in the disinfection of swimming pool water quality is very important, and the correct use of swimming pool flocculant should effectively improve the water quality of the swimming pool and create a healthy and comfortable swimming environment for swimmers.
